Astrology: Mercury Retrograde
Mercury retrograde is a continuous cycle of the planet mercury “moving backwards” thus slowing
down and / or lets processes that are mercurial go sour.
What is a retrograde planet in astrology?
First, there are two planets that can never go retrograde and / or stationary. These are planets: the
Sun and Moon.
All other planets can generally have three kinds of movement in its orbit:
1. In normal orbit, the planet moves in a logical interval of degrees around other planets,
2. Stationary orbit, the planet does not move in logical interval of degrees around other
3. In retrograde orbit, the planet moves “backwards” in a logical interval of degrees around
Some extra explanation is necessary on this subject. Off course, the planets do not stand still, or
move backwards, as stated under points 2 and 3.
When the old astrologers did their classical nightly star gazing, the found out that planets
sometimes: did not seem to move, horoscope even moved backwards!
These objective observations were shared among astrologers on different locations and / or
After a long process of deduction and logical reasoning why these two phenomena happened,
different approaches were followed. After a lot of scientific hypotheses being tested to see if they
were valid explanations for these phenomena of the planets being stationary of retrograde, the
following was agreed upon. The stationary is the first form a retrograde, of actually the indicator a
retrograde is upcoming or a planet is going from retrograde to running normal again.
The orbit of each planet has an elliptical movement around the earth. Both phenomena depend on
two factors in short: the position of the earth, and the position of the astrologer looking in the
cosmos at a planet from the earth, determining the stationary, retrograde, or running normal
